  • Sizewell C and around 20 supply chain partners showcase thousands of jobs and training opportunities
  • Event forms part of a wider programme of Sizewell C careers fairs held across Suffolk
  • Sizewell C has already pledged to deliver at least 500 jobs for Ipswich residents

More than 400 people attended Sizewell C’s latest careers fair in Ipswich, reflecting a growing interest in opportunities linked to the project.

Held on Thursday 25 June at the University of Suffolk, the event brought together Sizewell C and around 20 supply chain partners to showcase the thousands of jobs and training opportunities the project will create.

Attendees met industry experts, learned about current and future vacancies, and discovered how they could play a role in one of the UK’s largest clean energy projects, under construction on the Suffolk coast.

Opportunities span a wide range of sectors, including construction, engineering, environmental services, logistics and business support.

Jobseekers welcomed the wide range of jobs and training opportunities available.

Katherine, 22, a student from the University of Greenwich, who hoped to secure a graduate role in HR or administration, said: “I didn’t know much about Sizewell C before today – only the basics – but I’ve already learned so much. It’s a much bigger project than I realised, involving hundreds of companies. It’s been really interesting to see how many options there are, and that opportunities aren’t limited.”

Dylan, 21, from Framlingham, who was interested in a role in IT or engineering, added: “I did some work experience at Sizewell C a few years ago and really enjoyed it – everyone was really friendly. I’ve also got a few friends who have worked there too, and they all say it’s a fantastic company to be part of.”

In partnership with local MP Jack Abbott, Sizewell C has pledged to deliver at least 500 jobs for Ipswich residents during construction, ensuring the town directly benefits from the project’s significant employment opportunities.

At peak construction, around a third of the 7,900-strong workforce – approximately 2,600 roles – will come from East Anglia. Some roles will be based at Orwell Logistics Park in Ipswich, where Sizewell C has secured one million square feet of space for offices, equipment and materials.

Stuart Allsopp, Job Service Lead at Sizewell C, said: “It was inspiring to see so many people turn out despite the high temperatures. It shows the strong local appetite to be part of Sizewell C and the opportunities it will create. People from all backgrounds came ready to learn, connect and take their next steps. That enthusiasm gives us real confidence as we build a project that will deliver jobs, skills and long-term benefits for Suffolk and the wider region.”

During construction, Sizewell C will create at least 1,500 apprenticeships, with at least a third earmarked for people in Suffolk.

More than 300 suppliers across the East of England have already secured work on the project, with investment in Suffolk alone reaching £1bn.

Michala Richmond, Early Careers and Social Value Coordinator at Suffolk-based company Jacksons Civil Engineering, who exhibited at the careers fair, said: “The careers fair provided a steady stream of opportunities to engage with students and job seekers by showcasing career opportunities within the civil engineering industry and highlighting the wide range of skills and pathways available. We were also able to signpost attendees to other companies involved in Sizewell C. We look forward to supporting future initiatives that inspire careers in the sector – for ourselves, the supply chain, and Sizewell C.”

Last year, Sizewell C hosted careers fairs in Leiston, Lowestoft and Ipswich, attracting more than 1,500 attendees. A similar programme of events is being delivered this year.
