Build and repeat - the benefits of replication

Hinkley Point C (HPC) in Somerset is the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK for a generation. Sizewell C will use the same design as HPC and will be building the third and fourth in a series of UK EPR reactors.

HPC has created a huge workforce and supply chain that will be able to apply their skills to Sizewell C. Replication means Sizewell C will benefit from all the efficiencies and expertise learned by our sister project.

The domed roof of the first reactor building is slowly lowered into place

The reactor pressure vessel made its way to Hinkley Point C after a 2,000-mile journey.

The first new nuclear reactor for a British power station in more than 30 years has arrived in Somerset.

The reactor pressure vessel arrives by barge to Combwich Wharf on the River Parrett in Somerset.

Big Carl, the world’s largest crane, lifted the pictured 304-tonne steel liner ring onto the first reactor building.

This is the third and final ring to be installed on the building, which will contain one of Hinkley Point C’s two nuclear reactors.

One of the project’s heaviest lifts was completed when Big Carl set down the Lance Storage and Transfer Compartment Pools, weighing in at a staggering 780 tonnes, into the Unit 1 Reactor Building.

HPC were delighted to welcome The French Ambassador Hélène Tréheux-Duchêne. The Ambassador went on a tour of the site and was able to see first-hand the great progress they are making.

This is the gold simulator suite inside the Hinkley Point C Training Building. In this room trainee reactor operators will learn the skills required to operate the nuclear power station.

Replicating the economic benefits

Hinkley Point C has created thousands of jobs and business opportunities across the UK.

Sizewell C will create similar economic benefits for the country and for Suffolk.
