Why we need Sizewell C – a letter from GMB, Prospect and Unite

Sir, – The development of Sizewell C is critical to both the UK economy and, when it is built, to helping to keep Britain’s lights on.

We urgently need to invest in reliable, low carbon energy, including Sizewell C, if we are to respond to the climate emergency and secure a sustainable future.

This will be one of the most advanced infrastructure projects the UK has undertaken and will be delivered in partnership with the local community. It will also provide skilled, well-paid employment for hundreds of people during the construction and operation of the site over many decades, including apprenticeships for young people.

As we pick up the pieces after the current crisis, this project will be more important than ever in securing economic growth and jobs and it will support and benefit the regional economy.
