Around 80 people from the Sizewell C team walked up for up to seven and a half hours along the Suffolk coast and countryside last week, raising over £14k for independent Suffolk charity St Elizabeth Hospice.

Walkers covered five, ten, or twenty-mile routes, with each circular route starting and ending back at Sizewell Sports and Social Club. The long walk lasted over seven hours, walking past Sizewell along the picturesque Suffolk coastline and heading across Dunwich Heath and into Dunwich Forest before returning along the coast.

Donations are still incoming for the sponsored Sizewell C Suffolk Walk, which was the first of a number of fundraising initiatives that Sizewell C will be undertaking for St Elizabeth after selecting the charity as its first official two-year charity partner last month.

St Elizabeth Hospice helps people living with progressive and life-limiting illnesses throughout East & Mid Suffolk, Great Yarmouth & Waveney, offering care and support to them and their loved ones to maximise the time they have left.

Liz Baldwin, Corporate and Sponsorship Fundraising Manager for St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Thank you so much to the Sizewell C team for completing this fantastic fundraising walk for the hospice. It was so lovely to be there on the day and see the great enthusiasm from the Sizewell C team, as they took on their challenges.

“Your support will have a real impact on the care we provide to thousands of people across the region, during some of the most difficult times in their lives.”

Every year, St Elizabeth Hospice delivers free care to over 4,000 patients and their families, costing around £12m to facilitate. The charity is dependent on external support to make this work, with around 70% of funds being raised via local business support and community generosity, such as retail shops, donations, and fundraising activities.

Zak Williams, who led on the organisation of the walk for Sizewell C, said: “It was a great opportunity for people across the project to come together in the picturesque Suffolk countryside and raise as much as we can for our first charity partner, St Elizabeth Hospice.

“The weather was kind to us and there was a commendable spirit from all the team and volunteers involved. St Elizabeth Hospice do such important work in Suffolk and it was fantastic to get off to such a great start to begin our two-year relationship.”

The walk was sponsored by several of Sizewell C’s supply chain, including Galldris, Blackwell Earthmoving, Volker Fitzpatrick, Ardent, Agilia, Stephenson Harwood, and Jacobs.
