Sizewell C is launching 35 new apprenticeship placements this month – the first of nearly 100 new early careers roles that will be available on the project over the next few months.
The apprenticeships – which go live on 27 December – cover a wide variety of areas, from cyber security and civil engineering to countryside working and environmental management.
It marks a step up in the number of early career roles available at Sizewell C as the project continues to develop at pace on the Suffolk coast.
The project has also launched over 30 industrial placements, with roles ranging from creative content, project management, and quality engineering.
A total of 19 graduate placements will also be available, with grad schemes in Nuclear Business and Project Controls following those already offered in Science and Engineering and Supply Chain.
The Sizewell C Summer Internship Scheme will also open in early 2025, offering paid summer placements to young people hoping to join the nuclear industry.
Sarah Hancock, HR Director at Sizewell C, said: “With nearly a hundred new roles on offer, covering an amazing variety of areas, this is a great opportunity for so many young people to get their first experience of working in the nuclear industry.
“This is about investing in a pipeline of talent who will not only help to build and operate Sizewell C, but who will support the UK’s future nuclear ambitions too. These young people will be the next generation of Britain’s skilled nuclear workforce – and we’re looking forward to welcoming them and working with them in 2025.”
At least 1,500 Sizewell C apprenticeships will be available over the course of the construction period, with at least 540 of those to come from Suffolk, where the project is based.
Sizewell C has already appointed eight student ambassadors from local and national universities to help their career pathways and promote opportunities at Sizewell C. In the last academic year, the project reached nearly 16,000 students through 124 events.
William Shaw, a current Nuclear Development Graduate at Sizewell C, said: “Often when you’re considering a career, you have to pick between purpose or compensation – but Sizewell C is a great opportunity to get a good balance of the two. The amount of expertise that goes into pulling off a project of this size means you get real exposure to learn from people from all sorts of different backgrounds and skillsets.
Across Suffolk, the project is delivering a Sizewell C Jobs Service in partnership with the region – ensuring that local employment is maximised. It is providing a £23m fund to enhance facilities and resources in local colleges, Higher Education and training providers and improve skills. And its ‘Young Sizewell C’ initiative – which aims to help raise young people’s aspirations and help them gain important opportunities on the Sizewell C project and supply chain – has so far seen over 1,300 sign-ups, while 200 schools have accessed the project’s Power Up education resources.
