National Apprenticeship Week attracts students to Sizewell B

Today, dozens of engineering students from Suffolk One enjoyed a look behind the scenes of a working power station as part of activities being held at Sizewell B on National Apprenticeship Week.

Over 40 students studying for their B-Tech Level 3 in Engineering brought their studies to life as they visited Sizewell B to see how the station generates low carbon power for over 2.5million homes and businesses.

Paul Morton, Sizewell B station director, said: “It was great to welcome Suffolk One students to Sizewell B and to show them how they could use their engineering studies here or in the future with Sizewell C.”

The Engineering Maintenance Apprenticeship Scheme is a four-year programme that focuses on skills required to maintain EDF Energy’s power stations. On completion the apprentices are awarded a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Certificate, attaining a BTEC Level 3, with the potential for further education such as a HNC.  The first two years of the apprenticeship are based at the National College for Nuclear, delivered through Bridgwater and Taunton College, Somerset, and the following two are spent at the power station.
