Sizewell C sets out measures to help people examine planning application

The public are being invited to read plans for Sizewell C and share their views with the planning inspectorate as the next stage of the planning process gets underway.

This next step in the formal planning process to examine plans for Suffolk’s new low carbon power station will begin on 8 July and run until 30 September. We have extended this period, which is ordinarily 28 days, to last for 12 weeks as the application is detailed and there are still some restrictions due to the pandemic response.

All the planning documents are available on line but we will also share them in a purpose built mobile library which will tour East Suffolk.  Starting in Leiston on 13 July the public can make an appointment to view Sizewell C plans in the mobile library where social distancing measures will be observed.   The library will visit a dozen further locations ending in Lowestoft on 11 August.

Julia Pyke, Sizewell C Nuclear Development Director, said:  “We are committed to giving the public every chance to review our plans so they can share their views with the planning inspectorate.  Sizewell C will deliver benefits for local people and leave a positive legacy in skills, training and employment for years to come so we hope people engage fully in this process.”

The plans are shared through:

  • A mobile library visiting several local towns and villages in East Suffolk.
  • Over 40,000 newsletters are being distributed in the local area this week with a summary of the plans.
  • All the documents are available to read in the Sizewell C Information Office in Leiston. Call 0800 197 6102 to book a slot.
  • Laptops and ipads will be lent out to anyone having to shield or unable to leave home. Call 0800 197 6102 to book one.
  • An interactive version of the Environmental Statement is available here.

A mobile library will visit the following areas between 10-4pm for booked appointments to view the planning applications.

Leiston 13/14/15 July
Theberton 16/17 July
Middleton 20/21 July
Yoxford 22/23 July

The planning process

The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) encourages stakeholders to read the application online. You can then register on the PINS website to become an ‘Interested Party’ by providing a written summary of your views on the DCO application. This is called a ‘Relevant Representation’. As a registered ‘Interested Party’, you will be kept informed of progress and about opportunities to put your case forward at the next stage (the Examination).
