Sizewell C champions diversity in the nuclear industry

Over 100 business leaders gathered to support the launch of the Sizewell C women’s network. The new network will support women at the proposed new nuclear power station in Suffolk.

Adrienne Kelbie, Chief Executive of the Office for Nuclear Regulation, said: “Diverse teams make better decisions and that needs women to play their full part. Having role models and mentors is a really big deal in the nuclear sector.  This is important because young women in particular can see how people like them succeed and believe in themselves as future experts and leaders.”

Julia Pyke, Sizewell C Nuclear Development Director and Chair of the Sizewell C women’s network, said: “We want to help more women join the growing nuclear industry so it is representative of society with a better gender balance. It is encouraging to see so many women and men in the industry gather this evening to welcome the Sizewell C women’s network and we look forward to working together towards achieving the sector gender targets.”

A panel made up of women from the energy sector; Sarah Williamson, from Hinkley Point C Tier 1 supplier BYLOR, Katie Bannister, Sizewell B reactor operator; Hannah Bronwin, Deputy Director, BEIS and Cathryn Scott, Director, Ofgem, shared their views on achieving the sector target and how they made their way into the industry.
