Government support for Sizewell C

Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Sizewell B and the Sizewell C site this week to reaffirm the UK Government’s commitment to securing a long-term energy future for the UK.

“Go nuclear, go large, go with Sizewell C”, said the PM in his speech. “We need to pull our finger out and get on with Sizewell C.” The speech can be read in full here.

In line with the Government’s decision we continue to work to deliver the Sizewell C project which is key to Britain’s energy security and climate change objectives and realise the many education, economic and social benefits for this region.

This year alone has seen huge progress on the project; the passage of the Nuclear Financing Bill through parliament with an overwhelming majority, the granting of the Development Consent Order (DCO) and the whole-hearted backing for nuclear in the Government’s Energy Security Strategy.

These foundations mean that we are closer to delivering on the benefits Sizewell C will bring to Britain – from the provision of low carbon energy for millions of people to the creation of tens of thousands of highly skilled jobs across the country.
