Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Sizewell C were joined by over 100 local businesses from the food and catering sector this week to discuss feeding the power station’s future workforce.
“Refuelling the workforce of Sizewell C” was an event dedicated to the catering sector from across the region.
Steven Braithwaite from South-West Larder, the consortium feeding thousands of workers at Hinkley Point C in Somerset, shared his experiences on the opportunities that have been available through Sizewell C’s sister project which is based in Somerset.
Ashley Shorey-Mills, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce Head of the Sizewell C supply chain said: “With over 100 people joining the teams from the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and Sizewell C, it was a wonderful example of how Suffolk and the surrounding region is ready to deliver. The attendees stretched across the catering spectrum, from small SMEs producing single product ranges, through to wholesalers, and even large-scale catering providers.”
“It is clear that businesses in our region are open to working together to deliver this vital project, whilst creating a local supply chain that is fit for the future of our region. We enjoyed hearing many businesses speaking of how they are looking to create joint ventures and collaborations to help secure greater opportunities that Sizewell C will bring them.”
Steven Carroll, Sizewell C supply chain senior manager, commented: “Suffolk is renowned for great local produce and we are determined that through events like this we can create the local network of providers we will need to help deliver Sizewell C. The project will provide a springboard for businesses to come together and bid for other contracts too, just as South-West Larder has experienced in Somerset.”
The event, held at Trinity Park in Ipswich, featured speakers from Sizewell C, South-West Larder (the current catering provider on Hinkley Point C in Somerset) and New Anglia LEP. In addition, the event was supported by East Coast College, the Growth Hub, BEE Anglia and Vertas from the Sizewell C Consortium.
