Leiston residents and visitors will welcome another film premier this weekend thanks to EDF Energy and Leiston Film Theatre.

‘Cinema in the Park’ was first brought to the seaside town in 2014 to mark Leiston Film Theatre’s centenary. On August 20th locals will get the opportunity to see the latest edition of the much-loved family classic ‘The Jungle Book’ in the park thanks to EDF Energy’s support. Disney has even given the film theatre special permission to screen the film ahead of it being release on DVD.

The event is being staged as the cinema marks another milestone in its rich history. In 1976 Leiston Town Council stepped in to save the theatre from closure at a time when many other rural cinemas were calling the final curtain.

Speaking about the event, Leiston Film Theatre Manager Wayne Burns, said: “With the support of EDF Energy and Leiston Town Council we are delighted to bring the cinema back into the park this summer and look forward to screening this modern version of a family classic for thousands of local people.”

Nicky Corbett, EDF Energy’s Sizewell C Communications Officer said: “Leiston Film Theatre provides a great community service bringing people together in the enjoyment of films and this event is the icing on the cake, giving the community the opportunity to get together on a summer evening to enjoy a true Disney classic. As a local company, EDF Energy is very happy to support Cinema in the Park again this year.”
