County Councillor visits Sizewell C sites

The Sizewell C team welcomed County Councillor Alexander Nicoll on a visit to the Sizewell C site and associated development sites, including the proposed Park and Ride location at Wickham Market.

Cllr Nicoll is particularly interested in transport issues around the proposed plans for Sizewell C, and is prominent in the County Council’s SEGway project, aimed at delivering a four-village bypass between Farnham and Marlesford.

Our picture shows Sizewell C site Manager Matt Elliott (centre) and Richard Bull, Head of Transport Planning for the Sizewell C project (left) pointing out key features to Cllr Nicoll during his visit.

Residents in the Darsham and Wickham Market areas might have noticed EDF Energy contractors surveying in locations along the A12 close to our proposed Northern and Southern Park and Ride sites. These additional surveys are being carried out in response to feedback received at Stage 2 and will assist us in refining our proposals for future consultation. We will continue to inform clerks when technical studies are being undertaken in their town or parish and both councillors and residents are welcome to contact us at the Leiston office if they would like further information.

Engaging on the region’s economic future

The Sizewell C team attended a recent New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership (NALEP) consultation event on the future economic strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk.

The event sought views from more than 250 businesses in the region on next steps for delivery of the strategy. The main focus was on the region’s thriving energy sector, with training and skills for young people high on the agenda.

Our picture shows Hayley Mace, Head of Communications for New Anglia LEP, during the introduction to the event. If you would like to know more about the region’s emerging economic strategy then details can be found here.

Sizewell C Community Fund opens 1 April

The Sizewell C Community Fund could award you up to £750 for your community project or event and will be open for applications on 1 April 2018.

To qualify for funding your community event or project must benefit people living within a ten mile radius of the proposed Sizewell C site or associated development sites.

In 2017 our funding contributed to a wide range of projects including a Christmas event, a village sign, a boules pitch and an outing for senior citizens within the area.

The Sizewell C Community Fund helped to raise the funds needed for a Sizewell village sign. Our picture shows Leiston Town Councillors Lesley Hill (Chair) and David Morsley unveiling the sign in autumn 2017.

If you have an event or project that fits the criteria and would like to submit an application you can find further information on the Sizewell C website, or if you prefer call the Sizewell C Information Office on 01728 833891.

Please let people and organisations in your area know about the Sizewell C Community Fund. The closing date for deadlines is 4 May 2018 and our panel will be meeting to review applications later in May. Awards cannot be granted retrospectively, so think ahead and apply early.
