Community leaders hear feedback on Sizewell C proposals
More than 100 community representatives and members of the public attended the Sizewell C Community Forum at the Riverside Centre, Stratford St Andrew.
The Forum examined issues raised during Stage 2 Consultation. The group also discussed the next steps leading up to Stage 3 Consultation.
Jim Crawford, Sizewell C Project Development Director, described the feedback from Stage 2 as “High in volume and quality from a wide range of residents, community groups and their representatives”. Jim spoke about the need for Sizewell C, the commitment to take the time to get the plans and mitigation right, and the importance of proving the business case for the project.
Carly Vince, EDF Energy Chief Planning Officer, took the group through key areas of feedback: the main development site; accommodation campus; transport strategy; and benefits to the local community.
Stage 2 Summary
Lowestoft and Waveney Business Awards
The Sizewell C Project co-sponsored this year’s Business Awards for the Lowestoft branch of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce at Ivy House.
This year the awards celebrated their 10th birthday, and EDF Energy sponsored the award for Commitment to Staff and People Development. More than 200 guests from over 40 local companies heard speeches from Suffolk Chamber of Commerce chairman Graham Abbey and Waveney MP Peter Aldous.
The awards celebrate excellence and business innovation in the Waveney area.
Suffolk Young Chamber Careers Event
Sizewell C’s John McNamara took part in the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce’s Young Chamber Careers Networking event at Lowestoft Sixth Form College.
John joined other business leaders in East Suffolk to help bridge the gap between business and education for more than 70 sixth form students.
Our picture show John with a group of sixth formers during one of the timed ‘ask the expert’ sessions, aimed at encouraging students to learn more about career opportunities and for them to ask questions about interview techniques, CVs and the world of work. There was also advice on higher education opportunities.
Suffolk Skills Show 2017
Teams from Sizewell B and the Sizewell C Project were on hand at this year’s Suffolk Skills Show at Trinity Park.
The show, spread across a large part of the showground, gave schoolchildren and college students from across Suffolk the chance to engage with employers, gain advice on the job market, and ‘have a go’ at a range of work-related skills. More than 4,000 Suffolk schoolchildren attended the event.
Apprentice Glen Bunting, who is currently Sizewell B’s Apprentice of the Year, was on hand at the event to talk to schoolchildren about careers in engineering and helped pupils experience the virtual reality of building a nuclear reactor, as our picture shows.
Jim Crawford, Sizewell C project development director, said “EDF Energy is delighted to support the Suffolk Skills Show again this year. The energy sector needs people with an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects, and we are always happy to talk through what the industry has to offer”.
