55,000 reasons to love Sizewell B

Sizewell B visitor centre celebrates its 10th anniversary this week and its 55,000th visitor!

The station opened its doors in December 2012 following interest from local schools and communities to come and see how the power station makes low carbon electricity for over 2.5m homes.

Schools and colleges from across Suffolk and Norfolk come to the power station to bring science to life for students learning about how electricity is made. It's a popular tourist stop off too with many ticking the power station off the list before heading further up the coast.

Progress with Sizewell C has also meant the station, which sits next to the site for Suffolk's next new nuclear power station, is a great spot for young people to learn about how the UK will make its electricity for years to come.

Sizewell B and C will have a new visitor centre which will be able to accommodate more students and visits to the station and site.  Groundworks are being carried out now for the new centre with many local contractors such as Tru7 and Barnes Construction gaining contracts at the site.

Sarah Osborne, Sizewell visitor centre coordinator said:  "We are delighted the visitor centre has proved to be so popular with local communities and supportive to the school curriculum.  With our new centre on the horizon we hope to be able to offer even more workshops and visits in the future."
