What is Sizewell Creative?

Sizewell Creative is a new initiative from the Sizewell C project that supports local communities and our workforce through the creative arts. We’re built on collaboration, partnership, and celebration.

We work with schools, artists, arts organisations, the Sizewell C workforce, businesses, and professionals to make the arts more accessible. Our goal is to bring people together and celebrate community through creativity – raising aspirations, building community, and investing in our workforce.

Suffolk has a rich cultural history, and Sizewell Creative offers new opportunities for people to take part in the arts. We’re partnering with fantastic organisations across the region and beyond to support a lasting artistic legacy.

Our projects focus on place and belonging, with a strong presence in Leiston, Lowestoft, Ipswich, and East London.

Performances

We launched Sizewell Creative with our first production of Noye’s Fludde at Thorington Theatre near Southwold in the summer of 2024, bringing together local communities, schools, and the Sizewell C team alongside leading artists and performers. Noye’s Fludde is an opera by Benjamin Britten, born in Suffolk – the home of Sizewell C.

The opera explored climate change while engaging young people and the community to explore their feelings towards environmental issues, along with the building of Sizewell C.

These themes were developed through music and drama workshops alongside the performance itself.

Looking ahead, our next major performance is set for 2026 – a co-production with Britten Pears Arts, a leading music education organisation in Suffolk.

Come & Sing

Come and Sing is a joyful part of the Sizewell Creative programme.

Under the professional guidance of conductor, Tim Brown, and Assistant Music Director, Nathan Williamson, Come and Sing brings the Sizewell C workforce together in Leiston and London to sing, connect, and collaborate.

Our choir has performed at local and national events including First Light Festival, Helmingham Hall, VE Day 80 Celebrations on Sizewell Beach, and a public Come & Sing session at Leiston Abbey.

As our choir grows, we are planning more Come & Sing sessions for the local community, fostering inclusive collaboration across our sites.

Suitable for the whole family, and free to attend, keep an eye out for future Come & Sing events near you!

For the community

Sizewell Creative is all about connection, creativity, and community. We partner with local artists and organisations to bring inspiring projects to life, celebrating Suffolk’s vibrant cultural heritage and engaging people of all ages.

In February 2025, we hosted Leiston’s first Community Film Festival in partnership with Silverfish Films and the Leiston Film Theatre. A local fisherman, Sizewell beach swimmers, Alde Valley Academy students, and Sizewell C apprentices were among the unique local stories celebrated across seven short films about people and places in the town.

For schools

Sizewell Creative partners with schools, colleges, and universities to raise creative aspirations and to expand access to the arts in education.

Our long-term practitioner investment programme ensures lasting impact. This work begins in primary and engages through to apprenticeships with local and regional arts partners.

We’ve already worked with over 30 schools, both directly and indirectly via our partnerships, across primary, secondary, college and university age groups.

In March 2024, we supported the launch of a Creative Careers Day in Ipswich and collaborated on a cross-practitioner curriculum review for Suffolk New College.

Looking ahead, we’re working with partners to raise awareness and provide guidance to help launch creative apprenticeship programmes.

For our workforce

As well as our choir and Come & Sing sessions, we offer a wide range of creative activities for our workforce in Suffolk, London and nationwide.

These range from creative maze workshops on site using recycled safety barriers, to art painting classes run by a Suffolk-based artist for our office staff.

We recently put the call out across our workforce for hidden artistic talents and held the opening of the Sizewell Creative Art Exhibition featuring artwork created by our talented team. We plan to tour the exhibition across the county, gathering more contributions as we go from both workforce and the local community.

For businesses

In partnership with the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, we pioneer a new approach that brings creativity into the heart of business. Rather than asking for investment, we focus on using creativity as a tool to enable collaboration across businesses, helping to drive shared goals and priorities.
