The Sizewell C Community team participated in the ‘Futures 4 Us’ conference. Nearly 100 Year 7 students from the SWISS Academies/High Schools (Chantry Academy, Claydon HS, East Bergholt HS, Hadleigh HS, Holbrook Academy, Ormiston Endeavour, Stoke HS and Westbourne Academy) came together at Trinity Park, Ipswich last week.
The aim was to raise the aspirations of students and build their understanding about some of the exciting opportunities that will be available to them in the future. Iain Dunnett, New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership commented “We are very excited and pleased to be part of an approach which highlights the diverse and vibrant range of opportunities that exist locally and will expand in our community as we aim to transform the local economy into a global centre for talent and innovation. We are grateful to and offer our sincere thanks to the organisations participating in today’s conference including Easton and Otley College, EDF Energy, New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, Suffolk One, Trinity Park, University Campus Suffolk and Vertas.”
EDF Energy staff guided students through a ‘Tender Challenge’ where they worked in groups to design a product which they then presented to an EDF Energy panel for consideration. Amber Brinkley, Sizewell C Community Liaison Manager added “Events like this are vital as EDF Energy wants to inspire students in the STEM subjects. We were excited to run an interactive workshop for the students who were all very keen to work together to create something fun and innovative.”
