Suffolk companies are being urged to hear at first-hand how they could benefit from EDF Energy’s plans for a new power station at Sizewell at an event jointly hosted with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.

Jim Crawford, Sizewell C project development director at EDF Energy, will be joining Suffolk Chamber’s chief executive John Dugmore for a business breakfast at Trinity Park, Ipswich on Friday 13th January.

Jim will be outlining the latest proposals for Sizewell C and how EDF Energy is working alongside Suffolk Chamber of Commerce to ensure regional businesses make the most of the opportunity a project of this scale brings to the region.

Jim Crawford said: “This event provides a good opportunity for local businesses to learn more about the Sizewell C project and how they can get involved.  I am very much looking forward to meeting local business people at the event.”

It is estimated that 25,000 roles could be created during the building phase, with 900 permanent roles needed once the station is producing energy. There is likely to be a significant uplift in the local skills during the lifetime of the station as EDF Energy has a proven track record in investing in its workforce.

John Dugmore urged local businesses to attend the event to get the inside track into opportunities and take the opportunity to ask questions of EDF Energy.

“Suffolk Chamber has a close working relationship with EDF Energy and our belief is clear: the nuclear industry is good for Suffolk and good for businesses here in Suffolk.”

The Trinity Park event will see the relaunch of Suffolk Chamber’s Sizewell C Supply Chain website. The site aims to make it as easy as possible for local companies to register their interest in providing goods and services to this mightily important project.

John Dugmore added “remember, 80% of the work in building and running a nuclear power station comes from ‘non-nuclear’ businesses.

“I would urge every business in Suffolk to think about the opportunities that Sizewell C presents to them and sign up to the supply chain website sooner rather than later. Sizewell C promises to be a business power house as well as a new power station.”
