Business leaders put Suffolk students to the test

Today, a Human Resources Manager at Sizewell B is helping students prepare for life after high school through an event organised by Suffolk Young Chamber.

The Young Chamber is working with Bungay High School to deliver mock interviews to 50 Year 11 students.  EDF Energy was approached to support the programme as patrons of the Young Chamber.

Roy Cousins, who has been a Human Resources Manager at Sizewell B for 26 years, was joined by other local business people to carry out mock interviews at Bungay High School.

Roy said: “I am really looking forward to meeting the students at Bungay High School.  This Young Chamber event is a great opportunity for the students to experience what it is like to be interviewed for a job or place in further education.”

The 16year-olds will also get valuable feedback from businesses to help develop their employability skills.

The session ran on 6 March at Bungay High School.  Businesses are given job descriptions and suggested questions to ask along with feedback forms for each student.

EDF Energy and Young Chamber

EDF Energy, one of Suffolk’s leading employers, has become the latest business to sign up as a patron of an innovative scheme, run by the leading business body in the county aimed at bridging the gap between the world of education and the world of work.

EDF Energy became a patron of the young chamber scheme, run by Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, at the first Suffolk Festival of Learning, held at the University of Suffolk in October 2016.

EDF Energy, which operates Sizewell B power station and is looking to build Sizewell C has a very strong track record of working with schools and colleges and inspiring young people to study Science, Engineering and Maths subjects. Sizewell B employs 800 people and a further 1200 during refuelling and maintenance work every 18months.  Sizewell C would create 5,600 jobs during peak construction and 900 people once the station is operational.
