Over 60 colleagues from Sizewell B, Sizewell C and Hinkley Point C have cycled from London to Sizewell raising over £15,000 for Prostate Cancer UK
In the soaring temperatures the big-hearted bikers peddled the 118 miles from London to the Sizewell site on the coast in Suffolk in a bid to raise money to help fund research in curing the disease which affects 1 in 8 men and kills over 11,000 men every year – that’s nearly one every 45 minutes. The cyclists left London at 6am on Friday morning with the first arriving at the Sizewell visitor centre just after 4pm to a welcoming cheer from colleagues.
Organiser of the event, Tom Preston, from the Sizewell C Finance team, said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day, getting to know colleagues from across the Sizewell C project, Sizewell B and HPC. Everyone really enjoyed the ride and we’ve managed to raise a great amount for such a fantastic charity.”
Sizewell C Chief Financial Officer who also took part in the bike ride said: “This charity bike ride was a significant challenge for many of us and a great experience to come together as a team, feeling a shared engagement and motivation to achieve a common goal, an inspiration for how we want to run the Sizewell C project.”
Sarah Hancock, the project’s HR Director, was congratulated participants as they crossed the finish line. she said: “Well done to everyone who took part and all those who supported. On a hot and sunny day, the team did an amazing thing. So proud of everyone involved and the amount raised.”
Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.
